Are you feeling sad and tired and are you looking for a way to feel better again?
Are you feeling down or sad during most of the day? Does staying in bed feel more compelling than getting up? Do the same negative thoughts keep on bothering you? Do you feel like everything is too much? Do you feel sleepy most of the time or do you have trouble sleeping? Are you not having fun like you used to? Are you seeing your friends and family less and less?
If you answered some of these answers with yes you might be suffering from a depression. Perhaps you find yourself losing interest in your work, friends, hobbies or family. Maybe you are feeling more irritable even though you don’t want to. You might not know why this is happening and just want to feel better.
You are not the only one
Many people suffer from depression but little share this with others. Actually, 16,5% of the population will develop a depression at some moment in his life. Unfortunately there is still a taboo on feeling down or depressed. This is completely unnecessary. Depression is a normal reaction to difficult situations that many people experience. It is easy for others to say that you should just “cheer up” but this is unhelpful and they are overlooking your specific needs. Facing a depression can be difficult to achieve on your own.
Depression treatment can help you to feel better and to work towards being you again
I can help you to feel better. Most people feel a considerable relief after 3 to 4 sessions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (www.abct.org) and experience long-lasting results after 3-6 months. In therapy we will work together as a team and focus on reaching your goals in a warm ambience. I will adapt the sessions to your specific needs and make use of your strengths. In the sessions I will help you to deal with negative thoughts, to get your motivation back and to feel better step-by-step.
You might have some concerns about starting depression treatment…
I find it difficult to talk about certain topics…
In therapy you can share the topics you feel comfortable with. The information you share helps me to help you better, but we will always go at your pace. It is important to me to create a safe environment in which you feel at ease to talk about the topics that bother you.
I have tried many things already and nothing worked…
Different approaches have different effects in people. Not every therapy is effective for anyone and in any moment. Together we will identify why the things you tried before didn’t work, and use this information to look for new solutions. It is also useful to know that my approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), is one of the most studied and most effective treatments for depression. Many people have found relieve from depression through CBT.
